Higher
Ambitions – 1st August 2006 - 31st July 2008
Higher Ambitions is funded through Aimhigher North
Yorkshire and aims to increase and widen participation
in Higher Education by ensuring young people’s decisions
are based on sound assessment of their own abilities
and of the range of opportunities available.
The primary aim of Higher Ambitions is to take good
practice and lessons learnt from the 2004-2006 project,
in order to continue our work with schools and their
students in low progression areas across Scarborough
and the North Yorkshire Coast, Selby and Skipton. This
will be achieved through a multi-agency approach focusing
delivery on schools within these low progression areas.
The result is a programme of exciting, innovative and
customised activity delivered by an established and
committed partnership and co-ordinated by an experienced
and proven Project Manager.
Higher Ambitions challenges perceptions held about
Further and Higher Education whilst promoting benefits
with regard to personal development and employment
opportunities. In order to achieve this, a two tier
programme of delivery has been designed and will be
delivered in 12 school’s across North Yorkshire: Settle,
Aireville, Upper Wharfedale, South Craven Barlby, Brayton,
Selby High, Pindar, Filey, Graham, Whitby and Raincliffe.
Higher Ambitions is led by Guidance Services Ltd and
delivered by a consortium consisting of: Connexions
York and North Yorkshire, University of York, York
St. John University College, Askham Bryan College,
Yorkshire Coast College, Selby College, Craven College,
NYBEP, Relate,
and the National Centre for Early Music.
