Crossroads York and North Yorkshire
1st April 2006 – 30 September 2007

Funded through the Learning Skills Council North Yorkshire (ESF Objective 3 Co-financing). Crossroads has been developed in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council – Community Education, York Youth Service, Connexions North Yorkshire, York & North Yorkshire Nextstep Service, Knowledge Base UK and Jobcentre Plus and targets young adults aged 16 to 25 resident in York and North Yorkshire and provides skills development opportunities to individuals needing to make the transition to independent living and skills enhancement to those already living independently but experiencing difficulties.

The intensive, individual support offered through Crossroads is of particular help to young people in care/about to leave care, experiencing difficult domestic circumstances (including homelessness), not in employment, education or training, drug and/or alcohol abuse, being a young parent and or/a single parent or carer. Following a period of assessment young people accessing Crossroads have the opportunity to benefit from a programme of customised provision aimed at enhancing their personal development, which will feed into individual portfolios drawn from a Profile of Achievement (City and Guilds) and Passport to Achievement as appropriate:

These opportunities will include:

  • Finance and budgeting
  • Understanding how to access financial and other support in the community
  • Health and nutrition
  • Applying for jobs
  • Social skills
  • Accessing social activities and local facilities
  • Basic IT skills
  • Vocationally specific tasters
  • DIY skills

  • Keyfund and Keyfund contingency activities – an incentive led activity which enables young people to access funding to undertake an activity of their choice
  • Be Real – series of group programmes
  • Access to mobile IT Centres
  • Millennium Volunteers
  • Keyskills Training
  • PTT support placements (for those aged 19+)
  • Health and Safety, Food Hygiene and First Aid training.
